Jeet Kune Do Concepts

The Art of Fighting without Fighting

  • In any given self-defense situation, the practitioner should always look for a way to defuse the situation passively and verbally before becoming physical. It is always better to walk away from a fight if that is an option.
  • There are 3 pillars to The Art of Fighting without fighting:
  • Situational Awareness
  • Violence Avoidance
  • Conflict De-escalation (aka: Verbal Judo)

"Soft to Hard, Hard to Soft” - Jerry Smith

  • A concept from Kenpo for striking with your hands. If you are hitting a soft part of the body like the stomach, then you would use a closed fist. If you were hitting a hard part of the body such as the skull, then you would use an open hand. Doing this will help maximize impact power while minimizing injury.
